Playlists
Playlists are methods used to easily sort and retrieve songs. The Playlist Window can be opened by choosing Playlist from the Database Menu.
Note: Playlists only store references to songs, not the songs themselves.
Overview of the playlist window:
Description of the buttons (in order from left to right, top to bottom):
Edit Info: Shows and allows editing of the info for the song currently hilited. Any changes made are only stored in the playlist and databse for now.
Trash: Hiliting any song and clicking this button will remove the selected item from the playlist. Option-click to clear the entire playlist.
Previous: Skips to the beginning of the current song. If you click it again within a second, skips previous song in the playlist, if available. If you hold it down, it rewinds inside a song, similar to CD players. You can skip to the previous song when Shuffle mode is on. Only appears if a song is currently playing.
Next: Skips to the next song in the playlist, if available. If you hold it down, it forwards inside a song, similar to CD players. Only appears if a song is currently playing.
Stop: Stops the currently playing song. Only appears if a song is currently playing.
Pause: Pauses the currently playing song. When pressed again it resumes from the position in the song where it left off. Only appears if a song is currently playing.
Shuffle: Shuffles the order of the playlist. This will completely change the playing order.
Sorting: Clicking any Title such as title, kind, or author will cause Unsanityª Echo to sort the playlist alphabetically from 0-z based on the given criterion.
Hiliting:
Gray: This song has not been played yet.
Orange: This song has been played.
Blue with Bold Text: This song is currently playing.
Hold the Shift Key down when double-clicking a song in the playlist to keep the previously hilited songs hilited.
Adding songs to the playlist:
Note: Any file added to the playlist automatically gets added to the database.
1. Double-click an audio file in the Finder and Unsanity™ Echo will automatically begin to play it if the file has been opened by Unsanityª Echo before.
2. To add a song, or number of songs to the Unsanityª Echo playlist, select the songs in the Finder and drag them to the Unsanityª Echo playlist window. Unsanityª Echo will automatically scan through all the dragged items and add files it can play to the playlist and database browser. You can drag folders and disks on the window as well - Unsanityª Echo will automatically add the files contained within to the playlust and the folders and files to the database browser as a hierarchical database item. (See below)
3. It is also possible to add files to the playlist by dragging them over from the database browser.
Note: Anything and everything played in Unsanityª Echo gets added to the database.
Removing songs from the playlist:
To remove an item from the playlist, select the item(s) and press delete or click the little trash can icon. To clear the playlist completely, option click the trash can icon.
Loading a playlist:
To load a playlist, simply drag it from the Finder to the Unsanityª Echo playlist window. The following playlist formats are supported out of the box: -MALT 2.x Playlists - Shoutcast .PLS Playlists - Icecast/MP3.com -.M3U Playlists-AMP Radio Playlists. Formats can be extended with the use of PIMPs (Playlist Importers) added to the PIMP folder in the Plugins folder. Note: PIMPs only add files dragged to the database browser window.
